In Dibru saikhowa At least 24 Threatened species were
recorded that included White-winged Duck Cairina scutulata, Baer’s Pochard Aythya baeri, Pale-capped
Pigeon Columba punicea, Spotted Greenshank Tringa guttifer, Slender-billed Vulture Gyps tenuirostris,
White-backed Vulture G. bengalensis, White-bellied Heron Ardea insignis, Greater Adjutant-Stork Leptoptilos
dubius, Sarus Crane Grus antigone, Bengal Florican Houbaropsis bengalensis and Black-breasted Parrotbill
Paradoxornis flavirostris. In addition, 16 Near-threatened and, a few range extentions were also recorded.
Presence of two ‘forest villages’, habitat destruction through agriculture, logging, settlement, and
poisoning of waterbodies for fishing, and erosion by rivers were noticed as major threats.
