Dakshina Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha" was built up in the year 1918 by our adored Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi with the sole point of engendering Hindi in southern states. The principal Pracharak was none other than Devadoss Gandhi child of Mahatma Gandhi. "Hindi Prachar" was a development that risen as a major aspect of Freedom Movement and the pioneers who drove the country to "FREE INDIA" felt the need of making a solitary Indian Language the National Language, and through that dialect bring together the general population and in this way escalate National Integration. 1927 saw the rise of Dakshina Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha as a free association and Mahatma Gandhi was its President till he inhaled his last. Past at a Glance Provincial Branches were set up in 1936 to strengthen the development and that year saw the Sabha moving into the then new town, Thyagaraya Nagar, in Madras on a sprawling 7-section of land. The establishment for the building was laid by Janab Abdul Hameed Khan and the building was announced open on seventh October, 1936 by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru who was then the President of the Indian National Congress. Preparatory Examinations were being held routinely from 1922. The main degree level examination 'Rashtrabasha Visharad' was led and Convocation held which was tended to by Kaka Kalelkar in 1931.
