The Bharathiar University was built up at Coimbatore by the Government of Tamilnadu in February, 1982 under the arrangement of the Bharathiar University Act, 1981 (Act 1 of 1982). The Postgraduate Center of the University of Madras, which was working in Coimbatore before 1982 shaped the center of the Bharathiar University. In May, 1985 the University got the acknowledgment from University Grants Commission (UGC) New Delhi with the end goal of gifts.

The University named after the colossal national writer Subramania Bharathi is revered with the saying "Instruct to Elevate". In the University, each exertion is bridled to understand his fantasy of making instructive establishments as sanctuary of learning. It is the point of the University to take part in the undertaking of teaching vital Knowledge, Skills and Creative Attitudes and qualities among the adolescent of the nation to contribute all the more adequately towards setting up a fair social and monetary and mainstream perfect of the country.

Under Tatkal Scheme to get Degree Certificate The aspirants are eligible for tatkal scheme only after convocation within a week - ` 1000/- , within two weeks- ` 500/- (in addition to the normal fee) M.Phil
