Shivaji University, set up in 1962, is named after the Great Maratha Warrior and originator of the Maratha realm Chhatrapati Shivaji. It was introduced on eighteenth November, 1962 by Dr. Radhakrishnan, the then President of India.

One of the real destinations behind establishment of this University was to oblige the provincial needs of South Maharashtra. The purview of the University is spread more than four areas viz. Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara and Solapur with quality of around 2,00,000 understudies studying in 275 associated universities and perceived organizations.

In 1962 the University began working with 34 partnered schools and around 14000 understudies with 5 Post-graduate Departments on the grounds. Today the quantity of associated universities has gone upto 248 and understudies quality upto 2,00,000 with 34 Postgraduate Departments on grounds.

The University bestows training in 10 noteworthy resources of Arts, Social Science, Science, Commerce, Education, Fine Arts, Law, Medicine, Ayurvedic Medicine, Engineering and Technology. The University has begun Post-graduate showing focus at Solapur in 3 Post-graduate Departments.
