The historical backdrop of Kashmir University Library goes back to 1948 with the initiation of "College of Jammu and Kashmir". It was set up to take into account the scholastic and research needs of the researchers, understudies and instructors of University of Kashmir.

The Library is directly the Center of the University Library System, having fifty-seven(57) Seminar Libraries connected with various Departments, Centers, and the Institutes of the University.
