The rules for classification of bodies of water and Environmental guidelines for its setting issued by State Council for Environmental Policy -COPAM are as mentioned below.

State Council for Environmental Policy for Water Bodies and Environmental guidelines-COPAM

Provides for the classification of bodies of water and Environmental guidelines for its setting, as well as Establishing the conditions and standards of Effluent disposal, and other measures.

The State Environmental Policy Council - COPAM, in the use of the attributions
Are conferred by the Delegated Law nº 178, of January 29, 2007, regulated by the
Decree No. 44,667, of December 3, 2007, in view of the provisions of its regulation
Internal and based on art. 1 and 1 of art. 2 of the CONAMA Resolution No. 237 of 19
December 1997 and the State Council of Water Resources of the State of Minas Gerais -
CERH-MG, in the use of its attributions, especially those contained in art. 41, subsection I of Law No. 13,199 / 99 and Decree No. 41,578 of March 8, 2001,
Considering that the Federal Constitution and Law No. 6.938, of August 31, 1981,
Aim to control the release of pollutants into the environment by prohibiting
Levels that are harmful or harmful to humans and other life forms;

Considering art. 9 , item I, of Law No. 9,433 of January 8, 1997, which established
The National Policy on Water Resources, and arts. 15 and 16 of Law 13199 of 29 December January 1999, which established the State Policy for Water Resources and other norms.

Applicable to the material; Considering the amendments to CONAMA Resolution No. 357 of March 17, 2005 Which provides for the classification of water bodies and environmental guidelines for their Framework, as well as establishing the conditions and standards for the discharge of effluents, and Gives other measures; Whereas water integrates the concerns of sustainable development, Based on the principles of the ecological function of property, prevention, precaution.

Polluter pays, user-pays and integration, as well as in the recognition of value
Intrinsic to nature;

Considering that the classification of fresh waters is essential to the defense of their
Assessed by specific conditions and standards, in order to ensure their uses.
The required environmental quality for the body of water;

Considering the terms of the Stockholm Convention, which deals with Pollutants
Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), ratified by Legislative Decree No 204 of 7 May
2004;

Whereas human health and well-being, as well as the ecological balance
Must not be affected by the deterioration of water quality
