The first vice chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University was Bishan Singh Samundri. He was appointed from 1969 to 1978.

Jaspal S Sandhu was appointed as the vice-chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar, while professor BS Ghuman has been appointed as VC of Punjabi University, Patiala
