The Common Admission Test (CAT) is an all-India test conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) for admission to the Post-graduate and Fellow Programs in management courses of several management institutes all over India including the IIMs.

CAT 2017 notification will be released on the fourth Sunday of July, 2017.

CAT Eligibility Criteria

Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a recognised university or institute.

The minimum percentage of aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA to be obtained or secured by the applicants is 50 for General category candidates and 45 for reserved category candidates.

Final year graduation students are also eligible to appear for the exam

CAT Exam Pattern


CAT is a computer based test of three hours duration carrying 100 objective type questions which were mixed among multiple choice and non multiple choice questions.

The number of questions in Verbal and Reading Comprehension and Quantitative Ability sections is same, i.e. 34, whereas the number of questions in Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning section is 32.

Each section is time bound for one hour.

The total duration of the exam is three hours.

Each question carries three marks.

For each wrong answer, there is a negative marking of 1 mark.

There is no negative marking for non-MCQs or unattempted questions
