Indian Law Institute (ILI) was established in 1956 essentially with the goal of advancing and directing lawful research. The targets of the Institute as set down in its Memorandum of Association are to develop the study of law, to advance propelled studies and research in law in order to meet the social, financial and different requirements of the Indian individuals, to advance systematization of law, to energize and direct examinations in lawful and united fields, to enhance legitimate training, to give guidelines in law, and to distribute considers, books, periodicals, and so on.

The Indian Law Institute is a self-ruling body enlisted under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. The national unit is at New Delhi, and each state has a unit.

The President of the national unit is the Chief Justice of India, while the President of a state unit is the Chief Justice of the High Court of the state.

A Word about the Indian Law Institute and its West Bengal State Unit

To the extent the West Bengal State Unit is concerned, the Hon'ble Mrs. Equity Nishita Mhatre, Acting Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court is its present President. The Treasurer is the Hon'ble Mr. Equity Biswanath Somadder.
