The University of Calcutta is a public state university located in Kolkata, West Bengal, India established on 24 January 1857. It was the first institution in Asia to be established as a multidisciplinary and secular Western-style university

Ranking :

he University of Calcutta was ranked 601-650 in the QS World University Rankings of 2011 and 43 in the QS University Rankings for Asia in 2012.[9] In India

it was ranked second by India Today in its list of Top India Universities of 2012,[10] 2013 and 2014.


It is 16th Best University in All over India by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. Of India in 2017.


Accreditation and recognition

In 2001 the university was awarded the status of a ‘five star university’ by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council.
On 8 December 2005, the Indian University Grants Commission declared Calcutta University as a ‘‘University with Potential for Excellence’’.
The Manuscript Library at the university has been recently designated as a Manuscript Conservation Centre under the National Mission for Manuscripts, which was established in 2003.[
On 5 January 2010, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council awarded its highest grade of 'A' to the universit
