Indira Gandhi Memorial Library, University of Hyderabad is one of the critical central facility of the University taking into account the data needs of workforce, research researchers and understudies in Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, Management, Sciences and Engineering. This library building was initiated by his Excellency late Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma the then Vice President of India, on 21-10-1988 and named after late Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi.

Mission

The fundamental target is to make the Library the best Learning Resource focus to add to the nature of advanced education. The library additionally made learning condition by setting up Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) Searching Area, Internet perusing range for getting to e-assets, Laptop zone with Wi-Fi office, particular workstations and programming for outwardly tested understudies.

Distinctions

The library with its excellent IT infrastructure facilities has achieved various distinctions in the country.

• IGM Library is the first University Library in India
• To fully automate all its housekeeping operations
• To undertake turnkey projects for computerizing other libraries and to provide network facilities in Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University, Hyderabad and City Central Library (City Grandhalaya Samstha, Ashok Nagar), Hyderabad.
• To offer one year Post Graduate Diploma in Library Automation and Networking (PGDLAN) under Distance Education mode from 1998 with greater emphasis on practices and projects.
• To subscribe online search databases since the year 1998 and full text databases from 2001
• To become one of the governing body member of OCLC (Worldcat)
• To install electronic surveillance and security system
• To install 100 KW Solar power system.

• JSTOR INDIA USERS FORUM 2014 (Growing set of the E-Resources on JSTOR platform)
• Turnitin (The Anti-plagiarism Software) - Training cum Orientation Program with Turnitin Technical Team (Shri Arjun, Balani iGroup, India ) for university students, research scholars and faculty on Oct. 4, 2016 at 9.30 am - 12.30 pm and exclusively to the registered faculty from 2.00 pm - 4.30 pm @ Raman Auditorium, UOH.
• Elsevier Workshop on Book & Journal Publishing and eBook Awareness 2017. Dt. 15.2.2017 10.30 am to 12.30 pm. Venue: Management Building, opposite to IGM Library. Register to attend the program.
• Workshop on Mandeley with Elsevier Publishers, Dt. 9.3.2017 (10.30 am - 12.30 pm). Venue: Conference Hall, School of Management Studies

ICT Infrastructure

Since its inception, the library has taken visible measures in making use of the ICT advancements for improving library services. The library has -
• 1 GB National Knowledge Network for accessing on-line databases
• Wi-Fi connectivity with 11 instruments. Soon will be updated with MHRD infrastructure
• New IBM Data servers were installed in May 2013, with 600 GB hard disk capacity, Data base server and backup server 600 GB with the storing capacity of 3 TB and tape library for auto back up.
• CD/DVD mirror server
• 2 Servers for maintaining Institutional Repositories
• Web OPAC (The library catalog) and IGM Library Website for world wide access
• OPAC Terminals (exclusively) in Right and Left wings of the library (8)
• 24 PCs for providing internet access facility to students
• 30 PCs provided for professional staff in working areas
• Electronic surveillance
• 3M Electronic Security System (Gate, Work station and Tags)
• Barcode Printer for Acquisition Section
• Barcode Scanners (3) for Circulation Counter
• Network Printers (3), Printer + Scanners (2), Printers ( )
• PGDLAN Lab with LAN facility with seating capacity for 60 students and equiped with 30 PCs for students Desktop, Multimedia Projector
• For visually challenged students 5 scanners, 5 computer workstations for visually challenged students with special software - JAWS with 10 user license and document reading software Kruzwel, to listen to printed books using scanner/with OCR facility. 2 additional systems and a special Braille printer is also available.
• LAPTOP Zones (2)
• ETD LAB is equipped with 3 Scanners for the digitization of theses/dissertation/rare books and university publications.
