Exam Pattern
Preliminary Examination

The preliminary exam of IES will have two papers, paper 1 will be general ability test common for all the candidates and paper 2 will be on specific engineering disciplines chosen by candidates.

Paper 1 will consist of 100 questions while Paper 2 will contain total 150 questions.

Paper 1 IES 2018 prelims will be for 200 marks whereas paper 2 is of 300 marks

Candidates will have to secure the required qualifying marks to be shortlisted for the next stage and the marks obtained by candidates in Paper 1 will be considered for final merit list.

There is negative marking in the preliminary exam and 0.33 marks of the total marks allotted to a question will be deducted for incorrect answers.

Mains Examination

The IES mains examination will consist of two conventional type papers. Both papers will be based on Engineering disciplines.

The test will be conducted in pen and paper mode and each will be held for three hours.

The maximum marks allotted for IES mains exam is 600. There is no negative marks for wrong answers.
