Indian Institute of Mass Communication was founded in 1965 as a department of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India. It was enrolled below the Societies Registration Act on January 22nd, 1966 as an independent establishment. IIMC was instituted with the function of preparing a methodology for the proper development of communication resources within the country. The plan for the establishment of IIMC was drawn up by a team of experts including representatives of the UNESCO. Indian Institute of Mass Communication has two campuses located at New Delhi JNU new campus & Dhenkanal (Orissa).
