Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), a specific institution dedicated to the research, teaching and discussion of statistics, natural sciences and social sciences. Launched by Professor P.C. Mahalanobis in Kolkata on 17th December, 1931, the institute benefited the position of an Institution of National Importance by an act of the Indian Parliament in 1959.
Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) secures in the research, teaching, and application of statistics to the natural sciences and social sciences. When statistics was a comparatively new scientific field, the institute arrived at the status of Institution of National brilliance by an act of the Indian Parliament in 1959.
It was till then, loosely associated with the University of Calcutta. Today, ISI Kolkata is a state-of-the-art Institute devoted to the research, teaching and application of statistics, natural sciences and social sciences that has an annual expenditure of over Rs. 15,000,000.
