Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Manipal, is the first medical college in the private sector in India. Also famous by the name, KMC Manipal, the college came into universe in June 30, 1953. Initially, it began with only the pre-clinical section at Manipal and the students had to go to Mangalore for their clinical training. Later on with the clinical programme having begun at Manipal in 1969, it became a full-fledged independent college. Kasturba Medical College Manipal got recognition from Medical Council of India (MCI) in 1958. In 1969 with the commencement of clinical program KMC became a full-fledged independent college. KMC Manipal systematically ranks among the top 10 medical colleges in the nation. The college is attached to Manipal University in Karnataka.
