National Institute of Technology, Rourkela was set up by the central government in association with the state government of Orissa in 1961 by the name of Regional Engineering College. National Institute of Technology, Rourkela (NIT) also known as Regional Engineering College, (REC) is one of the First in rank or degree national level institutions for technical education in the country and is furnished with funds by the Government of India.
