Introduction
Pandit Sundarlal Sharma (Open) University (PSSOU) Chhattisgarh, Bilaspur was founded by the Chhattisgarh legislature in the 55th year of the republic of India. The Governor of the state granted his acquiescence to it on on 20th January, 2005 and the act was issued in the Chhatisgarh Gazette no. 20 Raipur, Monday the 24th January, 2005. Dr. T.D. Sharma joined this university as the first Vice-Chancellor on 2nd March, 2005 while Dr. Sharad Kumar Vajpai takes office as Registrar on the 15th March, 2005.
Pandit Sunderlal Sharma Open University gives distance education in several courses. It extends undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and diplomas in a number of disciplines.
The university offers special distance learning programme for handicap students which disagrees the varsity from other conventional universities. The Open University believes in active reservation of students in the teaching learning procedure and likes to convert the academic assumption to more students friendly.

Pandit Sunderlal Sharma Open University has gained specially those who live in far flung areas of the state where regular education is not approachable. It has opened regional study centers in Raipur, Bastar, Ambikapur, and Bilaspur. The territorial jurisdiction of the University is spread all across Chattisgarh.
