Introduction
Periyar Maniammai University has been arriving at worthy steps in its service to the socially and educationally disfavored department of the society, launching several service-oriented programmes. With three Schools of Studies existing of 15 sections and 8 Centers, the University aims to offer a level education to all sections of the society especially the poor and downtrodden. Nine UG Programmes, twenty-one PG Programmes. The talented and devoted faculty of the University, the progressive and technology-backed methods of teaching and the continuous, student-friendly judgment system of the international standard are the academic papers of the University. Well- furnished labs, studios and workplaces with cutting edge technology add to the academic ability of the University. A calm and hygienic campus with substantially provided hostels separately for men and women add to the attraction of the University.
The Periyar Maniammai University inadequate to its full-time educator work on campus, is substantially known for its services through its demand based and skill-pointed courses provided to the traditional work force such as farmers, artisans and technicians who belong to the middle and lower middle classes in the society. With the rich feel of offering quality education on the campus, the University is now founding the Centre for Open and Distance Education (COADE) in order to take quality education to the door steps of the educationally disfavored people such as school and college come down, working women, and self-help groups etc. The COADE has its central office on the campus of the University and three Regional Centres at Trichy, Chennai and New Delhi for the benefit of the students all over the country.
