The Territorial Army (TA) is a voluntary part-time civilian force which plays a useful role in the defense of the nation. It furnishes a chance to civilians to receive military training and also furnishes the nation with a reserve force that can assist the Regular Army during operations, whenever needed. The Territorial Army Act 1948 was passed by the Indian Parliament resulting in the constitution of the present Territorial Army. After its origin on 09 October 1949, it has furnished valuable service, both in times of war and during internal disturbances.
Role of the Territorial Army
To relieve the Regular Army of static duties and support the civil power if needed.
To furnish units for coastal defence and anti-aircraft defence of the nation.
Chandigarh: The 150 Infantry Battalion of the Territorial Army (TA), Punjab will be carrying out a recruitment rally of general duty soldiers, barber, washer men and safaiwalas from September 12. People from Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and J&K would be recruited during the rally.
