University of the Punjab (abbreviated some time as PU), conversationally known as Punjab University, is located in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. The University of the Punjab was officially based with the convention of the first gathering of its Senate on October 14, 1882 at Simla. It was the fourth university to be based by the British colonial agencies on the Indian land mass (the first three universities were based by the British rulers at their initial fastnesses of Calcutta; Located in the historical and culturally alive city of Lahore, this University has played a conducting role in higher education in the country.
The University strives to provide contributing environs for the pursuit of the academician activities. On account of its quality degrees, pleasant environs and low tuition fees the University remains the institution of first choice for admission seeking students. University of the Punjab is the largest and the oldest seat of higher learning in Pakistan. It was the first to be established in the sub-continent in Muslim majority area. The fact that three Nobel laureates are from this University speaks volumes for its academic and research excellence
