Re: institute of mathematics and its applications
The Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA) is the UK's chartered professional body for mathematicians and one of the UK's learned societies for mathematics (the other main one being the London Mathematical Society). It has 5,000 members, 10% of whom live outside the United Kingdom. 40% of members are employed in education (schools through to universities) and 60% work in commercial and governmental organisations. It awards 5 grades of membership within 3 groups. Current Rates for Membership There are no reduced rates of annual subscription for the Chartered Mathematician rate however following the grade structure, implemented in Jan 2003, the Chartered Mathematician designation is now optional and one may opt to resign from Chartered Mathematician, and therefore not pay the addition £27.00, but remain as a Member or Fellow of the Institute.
