In Duval County in 1968, at the season of the mass acquiescence which is alluded to as the "statewide educator walkout", instructors had a place with one association: the Duval Teachers Association (DTA). The walkout left scars on our whole group and state. A few instructors wound up noticeably disappointed with their National Education Association (NEA) partner, the DTA. The American Federation of Teachers (AFT) sent coordinators to Florida to familiarize educators with AFT's point of view. In 1969 numerous educators broke positions with the NEA and framed the Jacksonville Federation of Teachers (JFT). The state partner was the Florida Federation of Teachers. Educators voted in favor of solidarity in 1974, bringing forth the new gathering: Duval Teachers United. One trade off, worked out by the two sorting out boards, took into account double decision of a national affiliate** either the NEA or the AFT.
