Vishal Kotkar | Re: william carey university pre med William Carey University take their pre-med program very seriously. They work closely with their College of Osteopathic Medicine School across campus. Pre-Medical Program They recommend 50+ hours to prepare a student for medical school. Their Anatomy and Physiology classes have been redesigned from 8 semester hours to 12 semester hours. Human Anatomy 1 and 2 (BIO 244 and 245; 4 semester hours each) allow the student to explore anatomy at a much greater depth. Both courses meet weekly in the Gross Anatomy Laboratory allowing for the use of cadavers. Additionally, they offer a Human Physiology course (BIO 275) for 4 semester hours of credit. The Advanced Human Anatomy course for seniors utilizes cadavers in the anatomy lab. All pre-med students take their first two cadaver laboratory-based courses in their freshman or sophomore years in order to ensure problems will not arise with upper level pre-med students not being able to handle cadavers. Work Study Pre-med students compete for several work study positions at William Carey. Work study positions are available in the WCU College of Osteopathic Medicine in the Rotations Department and in the Admissions Department. Additionally, each year three students are chosen (usually in their junior year) to work in the medical school cadaver lab assisting with lab set-up, practical set-up, and assistance in studying the cadavers.
