SMEA7014 RESEARCH METHODOLOGY AND IPR

UNIT 1 RESEARCH METHODOLOGY INTRODUCTION 9 Hrs.
Research methodology – definition and significance, types of research – exploratory research, conclusive research,
modeling research, algorithmic research, casual research, theoretical and empirical research, cross-sectional and time
series research. Research process- steps, research problems, objectives, characteristics, hypothesis and research in an
evolutionary perspective.

UNIT 2 SAMPLING TECHNIQUE / EXECUTING THE RESEARCH 9 Hrs.
Sampling methods – Probability sampling methods – simple random sampling with replacement and without replacement,
stratified sampling, cluster sampling. Non-probability, sampling method – convenience sampling, judgment sampling, quota
sampling. Nonparametric tests- One sample tests – one sample sign test, Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, run test for
randomness, two sample tests – two sample sign test, Mann-Whitney U test, K-sample test – Kruskal Wallis test (H-test).

UNIT 3 MATHEMATICAL TOOLS FOR ANALYSIS 9 Hrs.
Hypothesis testing – Testing of hypotheses concerning means ( one mean and difference between two means – one tailed
and two tailed tests), concerning variance _ one tailed Chi-square test. Introduction to Disciminant, Factor analysis, cluster
analysis, multi-dimensional scaling, conjoint analysis, multiple regression and correlation, application of statistical software
for data analysis.

UNIT 4 INTRODUCTION TO IPR 9 Hrs.
Introduction to IPRs, Basic concepts and need for Intellectual Property - Patents, Copyrights, Geographical Indications, IPR
in India and Abroad – Genesis and Development – the way from WTO to WIPO –TRIPS, Nature of Intellectual Property,
Industrial Property, technological Research, Inventions and Innovations – Important examples of IPR.

UNIT 5 PATENT SPECIFICATION DRAFTING 9 Hrs.
Patentability of Inventions : Statutory Exceptions to Patentability; Novelty and Anticipation; Inventive Step; Capable of
Industrial Application; Person Skilled in the Art, Provisional and Complete Specifications; Structure of a Patent
Specification—Title, Abstract, Description, Claims, etc.; Reading a Patent Specification—Fair basis, Enabling Disclosure,
Definiteness, Priority; Introduction to Patent Drafting.
Max. 45 Hrs.
