Tech Mechanical Engineering Program offered by Pondicherry University, Pondicherry is as follows: T101 MATHEMATICS – I Unit I – Calculus Curvature, radius of curvature, evolutes and involutes Beta and Gamma functions and their properties. Unit II - Multiple Integrals And Applications Multiple integrals – change of order of integration. Applications: Areas (double integration) and volumes by triple integration (Cartesian and polar) – mass and center of mass (constant and variable densities). Unit III - Analytical Solid Geometry Directional cosines and ratios – angle between two lines – the equation of plane – equations to a straight line and shortest distance between two skew lines. Unit IV - Differential Equations Exact equations, First order linear equations, Bernoulli’s equation, orthogonal trajectories, growth and decay, geometrical applications and electric circuits. Equations not of first degree: equations solvable for p, equations solvable for y, equations solvable for x and Clairaut’s type. Unit V - Differential Equations (Higher order) Linear differential equations of higher order – with constant coefficients, the operator D - Euler’s linear equation of higher order with variable coefficients - simultaneous linear differential equations – solution by variation of parameters method – simple applications to electric circuits.
