SUGGESTED LIST OF EXPERIMENTS
METROLOGY LAB

1. Angle measurement using Bevel Protractor and Sine bar.
2. Measurement of linear and angular dimensions by using Tool Maker’s Microscope (TMM).
3. Testing Squareness of a Tri-square using Slip Gauges.
4. Bore diameter Measurement by two balls and four balls method.
5. Internal taper angle measurement by using spheres.
6. Measurement of linear and angular dimensions by using profile projector.
7. Measurement of gear tooth thickness by using gear tooth vernier.
8. Measurement of circularity, cylindricity, dimensional tolerance and run out using Mechanical, Electronic comparator.
9. Composite error in gears using Parkinson Gear Tester.
10. Measurement of surface finish by using surface roughness tester.
11. Straightness measurement using Autocollimator.

DYNAMICS LAB
1. Longitudinal vibration of spring mass system.
2. Undamped free vibration of equivalent spring mass system.
3. Undamped torsional vibration of single rotor system.
4. Critical speed of whirling shafts.
5. Amplitudeandfrequencyofforcedvibrationusingvibrati onexciterandvibrationmeter.
6. Characteristics of Governors – Watt Porter and Proell.
7. Gyroscopic torque measurement.
8. Drawing profile of the cam.
9. Velocity ratio of epicyclic gear train.
10. Balancing of rotating and reciprocating masses.

COURSE OUTCOMES
On completion of the course, student will be able to
CO1 - Demonstrate the principles of Mechanics of Machines.
CO2 - Evaluate the critical speed and examine various governor and gyroscope.
CO3 - Construct various cam profiles and Experiment the epicyclic gear train velocity ratio.
CO4 - Understand the principles of fits and tolerance, limit gauges and their designs, and surface finish measurements.
CO5 - Recognize the working of slip gauges, angle gauges, autocollimators, comparators and gear tooth profile testing.
CO6 - Describe the concepts of advances in metrology using various instruments.
