Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur is a public engineering institution located in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. It was declared to be an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India under the Institutes of Technology Act.

PhD thesis entitled “Studies On Multi-band Linearly and Circularly Polarized Printed Antennas For Wireless Communication Systems” has been awarded the best thesis in the Electronics track of the PhD symposium organized by IEEE UPCON 2017.

"A Polarization-Insensitive Frequency Selective Radome with Wideband Absorption" by Ritesh Pandey, Saptarshi Ghosh, Harsh Sheokand, Mondeep Saikia and Kumar Vaibhav Srivastava has been selected for best paper award in "Antenna and Microwave" track in IEEE UPCON 2017.

"Modular Multi-level Converter Topologies: Present Status and Key Challenges" by Ankit Yadav, S N Singh and S P Das has been selected for best paper award in "Power Electronics" track in IEEE UPCON 2017.

PhD student Adarsh Patel's thesis supervised by Dr.Aditya Jagannatham has been selected for conferment of Innovative Student Projects Award 2017.

Dr. Sandeep Anand, Department of Electrical Engineering has been selected for the INAE Young Engineer Award 2017.

Professor Laxmidhar Behera, Department of Electrical Engineering has been elected Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) for his distinguished contributions in the field of 'Engineering'.

IITK-TCS team reached to the podium finish at the Amazon Robotics Challenge 2017, Nagoya, Japan.

PhD student Girish Pahwa's(Supervisor Prof.Y.S.Chauhan) paper titled "Energy-Delay Tradeoffs in Negative Capacitance FinFET based CMOS Circuits" has been selected as the best paper in IEEE ICEE,Mumbai,India,December 2016.

Team comprising of Nachiketa Deshmukh and Abhinav Arya (PhD Students), Avinash Maguluri (M.Tech Student), Anup Anurag (Project Associate), Sandeep Anand(Mentor) has been selected as one of the University Challenge winners of the DST – Lockheed Martin – Tata Trusts India Innovation Growth Programme (IIGP) 2.0 for 2017. Their innovation is in the area of Solar PV Inverters.

Dr. Sandeep Anand, Department of Electrical Engineering has been selected as an Associate of the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore for a period of three years.

Dr. Yogesh Singh Chauhan, Department of Electrical Engineering has been invited to serve as Distinguished Lecturer of IEEE Electron Devices Society.

Dr. Yogesh Singh Chauhan, Department of Electrical Engineering has been invited to join the Editorial board of IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices, a prestigious journal in this area. He will serve as an editor for submissions in the area of "Device and Process Modeling"

Mr. Sateesh K. Awasthi got best paper award for paper with Prof. Y. N. Singh on "Reputation System and Incentive Mechanism to Handle the Malicious Peers and Free-riders in Peer-to-Peer Networks", in CEIT Conf. on Advances in Mobile communication, networking and computing, Feb. 2017

Power System Operation Corporation (POSOCO) - a subsidiary of Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (POWERGRID), in partnership with the Foundation for Innovation & Technology Transfer (FITT), IIT Delhi, has awarded POSOCO Power System Award (PPSA 2017) to the following PhD theses for innovative research in the areas of power systems.

Anju Meghwani, thesis titled "DC Microgrid Protection: Challenges and Solutions". Her thesis supervised by Prof. S. C. Srivastava and Prof.Saikat Chakrabarti.

Anup Shukla , thesis titled "Evolutionary Techniques Based Solution to the Unit Commitment Problem Including Renewable Energy Sources". His thesis supervised by Prof. S. N. Singh.

Nandini Negi, thesis titled "Decentralized Adaptive Primary and Distributed Secondary Control for Radial AC Microgrid". Thesis supervised by Prof. Saikat Chakrabarti and Prof.Soumya R. Sahoo.

Ph.D. student Debdeep Sarkar got First prize for oral presentation for paper with Dr. K V Srivastava, entitled "A Compact Two Element MIMO Antenna System for Pattern and Polarization Diversity" in the Microwave Engineering and Antenna track of 3rd IEEE Uttar Pradesh Section International Conference on Electrical, Computer and Electronics (IEEE UPCON 2016) held at IIT BHU (9-11 December 2016)

Ph.D. student Anju Meghwani (13204063) received 'Dr. Ramamoorthy best paper Award in Power Electronics and Drives' for paper with Dr. S C Srivastava and Dr. Saikat Chakrabarti, entitled "A Fast Scheme for Fault Detection in DC Microgrid Based on Voltage Prediction" in the 19th National power Systems Conference (NPSC 2016) held at IIT Bhubaneswar during 19-21 December, 2016.

Vivek Kumar Pandit PhD student with Professor A. R. Harish won best poster across all the tracks titled "Design of Dual-Band CPW-Fed Monopole Antenna with Dual Band AMC Surface for WLAN" at 13th International IEEE India Conference (INDICON 2016) at Bangalore, India on December 16th-18th, 2016.
