Xavier University accounting students offers Tax Preparation Assistance for low income, elderly and student taxpayers through the IRS-sponsored Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) every Monday evening beginning on Feb. 16. Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) The students offer free basic federal and state income tax assistance to the Xavier, Norwood, Evanston and Avondale communities. The program continues through April 13. Help is available by appointment only at 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. each evening. The VITA Program generally offers free tax help to people who make $54,000 or less and need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. Participants are asked to bring the following items: Photo ID. Your W2s and 1099 forms. The last pay stub is not enough. Social Security Cards for you, your spouse, and your dependents—not just the number. All tax-related documents. Copy of last year’s tax return if possible. The students will be set up in the Cintas Center Banquet Rooms 1 and 2. Free parking is available at the Cintas Center. This is the 21st year that Xavier students have offered this service.
