Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is a public central university. It was originally established by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan as Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental College in 1875. It offers more than 300 courses in both traditional and modern branches of education. In addition to this it has its three off-campus centres at Malappuram (Kerala), Murshidabad (West Bengal) and Kishanganj (Bihar). It comprises all castes, creeds, religions and genders, and is an Institute of National Importance provided under the Seventh Schedule of the Constitution at its commencement. It is a fully residential university having 13 faculties, 7 constituent colleges (5 colleges academic programs), 15 Centres, 3 Institutes, 10 schools. Recently, it opened faculty of International Studies. Officers of the University - The following are the Officers of the University: (1) The Chancellor, (2) The Pro-Chancellor, (3) The Vice-Chancellor, (3A) The Pro-Vice Chancellor, (3B) The Honorary Treasurer (3C) The Registrar, (3D) The Finance Officer (3E) The Deans of the Faculties; and (4) Such other Officers as may be declared by the Statutes to be Officers of the University. Authorities of the University - The following shall be the authorities of the University:- (1) The Court (2) The Executive Council (3) The Academic Council (3A) The Finance Committee (3B) The Faculties; and (4) Such other authorities as may be declared by the Statutes to be authorities of the University. |
