The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee invites application form for admission to full time/part time PhD Programmes in all departments/centres at the Institute.

IIT Roorkee PhD Research Admission -

IIT Roorkee offers PhD in the following disciplines:

Departments - Alternate Hydro-Energy Centre /Architecture & Planning/ Biotechnology /Chemical Engineering/Chemistry /Civil Engineering/Computer Science & Engineering /Earthquake Engineering/Earth Sciences/Electrical Eng /Electronics & Communication Eng/Humanities & Social Sciences /Hydrology /Mgt. Studies /Mathematics /Mechanical & Industrial Engineering/Metallurgical & Materials Engineering/Physics // Nanotechnology /Water Resources Development & Management /Disaster Mitigation /Transportation Systems

Saharanpur Campus: Applied Science & Engineering/ Paper Technology / Polymer and Process Engineering

Eligibility-

Master’s degree in respective discipline or equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 6.5 on a 10-point scale or equivalent as determined by the Institute wherever letter grade are awarded or 60% marks in aggregate (of all the years/semesters) where marks are awarded for the General (UR) category

Qualified national level graduate entrance test: GATE/UGC-NET/CSIR-NET or equivalent

B. Tech/B. Arch degree or equivalent in respective discipline from CFTIs with excellent academic record (with a minimum CGPA of 7.0 on a 10-point scale or equivalent or 75% marks)

The condition for GATE is not applicable to candidates from CFTIs (The list of CFTIs is available on the Institute Website) or;

Candidates pursuing master’s programmes in engineering or Architecture from IIT Roorkee having CGPA of at least 7.50 (after first year/completing all courses) shall have a choice of internal lateral entry into PhD program after completing all requirements of the first two semesters of the I (First) year of the Master’s program

For Part-time:

The applicant proves that his official duties permit him to devote sufficient time to research

He/she will be required to reside at the Institute for a period of not less than 6 months during his/her registration for the degree.

Such applicants are exempted from the requirement of having valid GATE/NET/GPAT

The applicants must have been in continuous service with the sponsoring organization for at least two years at the time of submitting the application form for admission

Selection Procedure

Selection will be made on the basis of their performance in the written test and interview.

Alternate Hydro-Energy Centre (AHC) Only Interview

Biotechnology (BTD) Only Interview

Chemical Engineering (CHD) Only Interview

Chemistry (CYD) Written Test –shortlist-interview

Civil Engineering (CED) Only Interview

Earthquake Engineering (EQD) Only Interview
