During the IAS exam application candidates may select optionals. There are various options for two papers. Candidates may select various optionals for two papers in IAS exam during application form filling. In IAS exam candidates must have facility to select two optional in IAS exam. With the exam pattern changed the UPSC has done away with second optional subjects and a candidate has to choose only one optional subject for UPSC Mains that has two papers for 250 marks each. There will be an optional subject in Civil Service mains examination comprising of 500 marks. One need to attend 2 papers ( 250+250 marks) on the optional. IAS is not an exam. It's a service. ONE optional subject that will consist of two papers of 250 marks each. The Civil Services Main examination is designed to test the intellectual prowess of an aspirant. It is intended to assess the overall intellectual traits and depth of understanding of candidates.
