The Indian Engineering Services is consists of engineers that work under the government of India to manage a large segment of public sector economy which constitutes of Railroads, Public works, Power, Telecommunications etc.

ESE is a competitive examination’ is conducted by the Union Public Services Commission (UPSC) for recruitment to the Indian Engineering Services.

The Examination constitutes of a written examination followed by an interview for personality test.

IES paper take place in three stages i.e.:

Stage 1: Objective Type
Paper 1- General studies and Engineering Aptitude Paper( common to all disciplines)
2 hours duration, 200 Maximum marks
Paper 2- Engineering discipline -specific paper
3 hours duration, 300 Maximum marks

Stage 2: Conventional Type
Paper 1-Engineering discipline -specific paper
3 hours duration, 300 Maximum marks
Paper 2- Engineering discipline -specific paper
3 hours duration, 300 Maximum marks

Stage 3: Personality Test
200 Maximum marks
