Historical development of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). EIA in Project Cycle. Legal and Regulatory aspects in
India. Types and Limitations of EIA, Cross sectoral issues and terms of reference in EIA – Public Participation in EIA. EIA
process.

UNIT 2 METHODS FOR EIA 9 Hrs.
Methods of EIA – Check lists – Matrices – Networks – Cost-benefit analysis – Analysis of alternatives.

UNIT 3 PREDICTION AND ASSESSMENT 9 Hrs.
Assessment of Impact on land, water, air, social & cultural activities and on flora & fauna- Mathematical models- Public
participation – Rapid EIA.

UNIT 4 ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT PLAN 9 Hrs.
Environmental Management Plan – preparation, implementation and review – Mitigation and Rehabilitation Plans– Policy
and guidelines for planning and monitoring programmes – Post project audit – Ethical and Quality aspects of Environmental
Impact Assessment. ISO 14001.

UNIT 5 CASE STUDIES 9 Hrs.
EIA related to the following sectors – Infrastructure – construction and housing Mining – Industrial – Power plants – River
valley and Hydroelectric – coastal projects.
Max.45 Hrs.

CO2 - Carry out Scoping And Screening of Developmental Projects for Environmental and Social Assessments
CO3 - Explain Different Methodologies for Environmental Impact Prediction and Assessment
CO4 - Plan Environmental Impact Assessments and Environmental Management Plans
CO5 - Evaluate Environmental Impact Assessment Reports.
CO6 - Prepare the legal, economic, administrative and technical process of environmental impact documents.
