Pervasive Computing - Principles, Characteristics - Application examples: Retail, Airline check-in and booking, Healthcare.
Interaction Transparency, context aware automated experience capture. Pervasive devices - embedded controls - smart
sensors and actuators.

UNIT2 PROTOCOLS 9 Hrs.
Open protocols - Service discovery technologies - SDP, Jini, SLP, UpnP protocols – data synchronization - SyncML
framework - Context communication and access services - Context aware mobile services - Context aware sensor
networks, addressing and communications - Context aware security - Device Management.

UNIT 3 DEVICE CONNECTIVITY AND TECHNOLOGIES 9 Hrs.
Past, Present and Future - Device Technology - Device Connectivity - Web Application Concepts- WWW architecture –
Protocols – Transcoding - Client Authentication via Internet. Java for Pervasive devices.

UNIT 4 WAP AND VOICE TECHNOLOGY 9 Hrs.
WAP and Beyond - Voice Technologies - Personal Digital Assistants, WAP infrastructure – WAP security issues – WML –
WAP push – Products – i-Mode - Voice Technology: Basics of Speech recognition- Voice Standards – Speech applications
– Speech and Pervasive Computing.

UNIT 5 PDA AND APPLICATION IN PERVASIVE COMPUTING 9 Hrs.
PDA operation Systems – Device Characteristics – Software Components - Standards – Mobile Applications - PDA
Browsers - Pervasive Web Application architecture, Pervasive application architecture. Applications- Smart Card, Heating
Ventilation and Air Conditioning, Set Top Boxes, Appliances and Home Networking, Residential Gateway, Automotive
Computing, On Board Computing Systems, In Vehicle networks, Entertainment Systems.
Max. 45 Hrs.

COURSE OUTCOMES
On completion of the course, student will be able to
CO1 - Apply the pervasive computing concepts in real time applications.
CO2 - Explore the protocols of Pervasive Computing Environments.
CO3 - Analyse the device connectivity and the technologies used in pervasive computing.
CO4 - Implement WAP and voice technology.
CO5 - Design applications in PDA.
CO6 - Create applications in ubiquitous environment.
