The Department of Chemistry was begun in 1908. Educator F L Usher, an understudy of Sir, William Ramsay of England was designated as the primary Professor of the Department in 1910. The division was partnered to the University of Madras until 1916. It accomplished the status of a University office after the foundation of University of Mysore. It went under the regulatory control of Bangalore University in the year 1964. Since its beginning the division had specializations in the territories of Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry. Since its initiation the department had specializations in the ranges of Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry. Natural chemistry was presented in 1973 and Analytical Chemistry specialization as of late as 2006.
