Electro-dynamic wattmeter’s, Low Power Factor (LPF) wattmeter, errors, Single and three phase power measurement, Hall effect wattmeter, thermal type wattmeter. Energy measurement - Single phase and poly phase induction type energy meter - theory and adjustments - Testing of energy meters - Calibration of wattmeter and energy meter. UNIT 3 MEASUREMENT OF RESISTANCE, INDUCTANCE AND CAPACITANCE 9 Hrs. Low, high and precise resistance measurement, Megger, Ohmmeters, Classical AC bridges: Measurement of Self- Inductance and capacitance. Detectors in bridge measurement, bridge screening, Wagner earth, transformer ratio bridges UNIT 4 ELECTRONIC AND DIGITAL MEASUREMENTS 9 Hrs. Electronic voltmeter and Digital voltmeter, current measurement with electronic instruments, Analog and digital multi-meters, Digital frequency meters, Time interval measurement. Digital LCR meter, Q-Meter, Digital wattmeter and energy meters UNIT 5 DISPLAY DEVICES, WAVEFORM GENERATORS AND ANALYZERS 9 Hrs. DSO, DPO, MSO, Analog Recorders – Strip Chart and X-Y recorders, Digital Recorders Function generators, Signal generators, Waveform analyzers, Spectrum analyzers, Distortion analyzers, Max.45 Hrs. COURSE OUTCOMES On completion of the course, student will be able to CO1 - Understand the principle, construction, operations and applications of electrical and electronic measuring instruments. CO2 - Develop the knowledge to measure parameters like voltage, current, power, energy, resistance, inductance, capacitance, magnetic flux, iron loss , frequency, time interval; etc. CO3 - Apply the knowledge to use an instrument to measure the parameter. CO4 - Evaluate the performance of instruments under various operating conditions. CO5 - Select instruments suitable for specific measurement application.
